No worries. I am cool

It upsets me everytime i see a post about how sketchclub is about popularity more than the art... The people who have made names for themselves are both great artist and helpful to the sketchclub community. They got there by paying their dues. There is always someone who can do something better than another... We dont ignore the people who we've encouraged once a better artist comes along... We simply fan the new artist, and as he/she becomes a part of the community, they too become popular. If your art is going unnoticed, don't blame the people who had to go through the same thing in finally being recognized.

Oh, and some sort of 'flagging' would be awesome.... A way people can report the sketch but also make the report/flag visible so we can place an account to a cheater... Which could discourage cheating...
-
Dill, you know, I agree with your first post. Its strange to me. Of course art, here and in the art world at large, is about what is popular. That is to say its about what people enjoy to look at, or think about, etc. Certain SC artists enjoy 'popularity' because they create work that people love and connect with. I don't see anything wrong with that. As an artist, or as an aspiring artist, that is a reality we face that will never change. So we must question for whom or why we are creating the work that we create. If you want to create work that is going to have the widest success then make it happen. That's fine. For me, creating work that is sincere and that burns like a love affair is the goal. Sometimes that work may be popular and sometimes not, but I will never find a place where all I do is guaranteed 'popularity' or wide enjoyment. Its not possible. Now, that being said, SC is about as supportive an environment as any artist will ever find (artists are competitive by nature in my experience and historically speaking). That's a good thing too (one of the best things about SC), but the question of 'popularity' makes little sense to me.

Great points, Dave and Dill! I got annoyed a while back when I read a review on the AppStore for SC, calling the community too "clique-y". This couldn't be farther from the truth. The community is so welcoming to absolutely everyone; much moreso than any other online community I've ever been involved with. Newbies quickly become friends, regardless of ability level. And a lot of new great artists have seen the feature spotlight lately. As SC grows, it just keeps getting better!
-
i'm not complaining about my art going unnoticed, but i see some scribbles on the stream that took probably 5 minutes and no effort at all get hearts and tons of likes, you have to admit that has to due with popularity, and i've tried talking to alot of people on here being kind and some have been really nice but some don't even say one thing because i'm new, it's just a bit ridiculous. i've been on alot of online forums and what not and i just thought it would be a tad different seeing as this is a place for art.
-
you have to look at it from an outsiders point of view and not from someone who's already established in the community.
-
krystens-I think you will notice that there are many users on here who have friends on here, and will sometimes heart some simple stuff. But in general, the community overall is hugely welcoming. From the moment I joined almost a year ago, I have felt welcomed, and my art is pretty mediocre.
Some users communicate more than others, but most folks here respond to messages on their sketches, and those in the chat room will generally include anyone into their conversations.
As I mentioned before, I feel SC is much less "clique-y" than any other online community I've ever been a part of...
-
i understand what you mean, alot of people here are really nice and have been welcoming but i've also come across ones who weren't, but it's an online community that's to be expected but compared to most other online communities it is better, at least there aren't many trolls! lol

I dont like to comment a lot because I have issues finding the right words... Others I know can find just the right words at just the right times... Everyone here is differant. Differant styles, differant personalities. I have made great friends on here and yes I have featured and given quite a few hearts to them. I have also given hearts and features to complete strangers. I do not regret one single heart or feature that I have given. They were well deserved.

...and just so no one thinks I said something shocking or terrible....I accidentally prematurely posted when typing my message above. I rewrote it, and petitioned a Gloperator friend to remove the old message, which made no sense as it had appeared...

Awe Man! PK, thought you were being bad! lol
-
I thought we were on court. I just thought it be cool to be a lawyer
-
Being social IS NOT A BAD THING. Otherwise, wats the point for Online sc? It's nice to post art and all but I love hanging out with people who are like halfway across the globe, I don't know about anyone else. I like the infraction idea. But what do I know I haven't been here for like a year for some people.

I have lost time to spend on SC and with that, lost the ability to dedicate my time to all the great artists in the community. With my limited time, I enjoy looking at the people whose art I'm familiar with and enjoyed enough to have fanned them in the past. I rarely get enough time to view all recent art of the people I have fanned. And i continue to fan new artists as i stumble across something that impresses me. Before the community had gotten so big, I was once able to view pretty much all art posted each day... Sadly I cant hardly keep up with anything posted 8 hours ago anymore. It's rough, especially with an ever growing community.
-
Haha! Word, Dill! I tried like hell to keep up until a couple months ago, when I just accepted the fact that it was no longer possible. But I do have my regular favorites, whom I always try to stay current with....
-
Dill...that's so true...the community grow so much..and changed too...no way to keep on with all the art...
-
Haha so much great posts in this thread! Dill, PK and Da, I just thought that today! With so little time it's so hard to keep up! I do the same Dill.
-
Could it be possible that it's time to take on a couple of new gloperators?? If so I'd certainly volunteer!!!

Seriously maybe we do need a few more since we have grown lots these past few months!
-
Well 1 I guess sketch court is a bad idea:(
2 gloperators are the top glop artists I would be a gloperator too:(
-
No bp should have an interview in msgs with 10 volunteers and 5 get picked or more. If that happens I call 2 on the list
-
CookieMonster...gloperators are not the top of the glops artist, believe me!

I was thinking about my 'flagging' option I mentioned previously... And about my xbox live gamer tag. On xbox you can give a gamer a good or bad review depending on your experience after playing with them online, which reflects a rating for everyone to see. This rating helps steer people clear of the troublesome online gamers and find more suitable players. A feature like this could be nice, I know many of us would love to give a rating to our favorite artist too. Or perhaps bp can add a little smelly fish button next to the piggy button, so when you think something is fishy; possible cheat; then you can click the lil fishy button. Something smells fishy!

haha, anyway, would be something that could help raise attention before someone gives up a heart or star on a stolen work of art.
-
Dill...love the smelly fishy idea!!!!!!!! 😂👍

Great idea, Dill!
