It was interesting on a debate few days back with someone about SC that the other full form for it is short cut to what we paint or not paint but illustrate . I kinda agree with this, what do you guys say.

As a person wich English is not a first language...I wanted to ask what is the difference between illustration and drawing?
What do you call an illustration? Example would help, like this sketch is this ..this sketch could be that...
Thank you!

it is subtle .. but a few things. Illustrations do not have to be drawings. Also illustrations are intended as visual tools and aids to some message. Most commercial artwork is considered to be illustration. Drawings can be illustrations, but they can be illusive intentionally .. not necessarily to illustrate a message.

@ Ahsan, I am very curious about your question but Im not sure what you are asking... It would be wonderful if you could ask the same question in a different way to see if maybe I can understand it then...?
-
@Da and PassingreMark: I do understand subtlety so I consulted a number of sources for an easy to understand definition:
Drawing - a picture which emphasizes line and shape rather than mass and color. I understand this as: I have made a drawing if I indicate what I want to paint by laying down some lines and shapes but I have not added color or shading yet.
Illustration - a picture meant to support or enhance a story. An example would be the drawings in a children's books. Illustrators were essential for things like paper newspapers back before photography (18th, 19th century).
I hope I don't sound like I'm trying to be a 'know it all'. I'm just intensely curious...
