I have not yet upgraded to the 3. I am wondering, for sc, if the highest resolution option allows for better printing clarity. Specifically, if I was to print an 11x14 print on Epson art paper using my Epson 1400 would the printed resolution (clarity) be better than what we currently have with the iPad 2.
Sorry. That's a very wordy question. Hopefully you understand the gist.

printing resolutions work with dpi... the mac resolution for printing is always the max your printer allows...usually 1200 dpi... even if the ipad 3 can make much higher resolution images this doesn't mean the printer can print at that resolution. (for super high res you need to print on high resolutions on big papers like A2/1 but there arent any home printers able for that size..
a image that has higher resolution would have a sharper picture , but to my experience its not such a big difference with a standard dpi or the max dpi ... max dpi uses only more inkt and gives a little(5%) better colour on true white glossless paper

Thanks Triedge. I'm thinking 300 dpi on a A1 or B2 matt or glossy Epson art paper. I appreciate your comment.

Gayla, I have recently had work done on my iPad 2 and iPad 3 printed commercially and after prepping them as tiffs in Photoshop there was no difference in quality of the print even though the IP2 was produced at a lower screen resolution.

oh, I meant to add I had them printed out at 20 X 28 inches

An improvement is made when having a service (fineartamerica.com - other web art site w/printing - FedEx/Kinko's) print on paper or canvas by putting the art through a fractal program such as 'Genuine Fractals' (others available) where resolution is increased at expense of size - but then size can also be increased keeping resolution.

Thanks Acidrant and Cotton.
In your opinion, if I upgrade to the 3, make a sketch in sc at the highest resolution, futz with it in photoshop, change the size to 11x14 with 300 dpi resolution.....print it properly with archival ink on art paper.....will I then see a difference in the clarity of the print?
Whew. That was a mouthful.

IMHO and please pardon me should I be mistaken, but it appears Gayla you may not have a grip on resolutions?
You can boost your art resolution to unbelievable heights, but if you are printing at 300dpi that will not show.
I would think boosting your art resolution and then printing at the highest output resolution the printer can handle will give the maximum result possible with that equipment.

Great. Got it. Thanks Cotton. You're right about my knowledge/lack of re resolution! When I was in the business professionally 300 seemed to be right at the max. How things change over the years. It is so easy to fall behind the curve. I appreciate your thoughts.
You are so diplomatic at pointing out my ignorance it this area😉. Please....don't feel yucky

about informing me in these teachable moments. Really! I appreciate it
