I'm at that place where sometimes things (that are recognizable) emerge. Feels kind of opportunistic. I'm womdering how common this is? With continue work/ play does this shift and does it become easier to be intentional all the way through? Does a degree of this stay? Curious about others experiences.

Haha....for most of my non-reference stuff, I start with almost no idea in mind where I'm going to go, and just doodle or play with brushes or vectors until it starts to go somewhere on its own....
-
same here most of my smudge sketches like light in the dark and your my pearl in the ocean
started with just random sketching/doodling and fooling around

I am so glad you said something! I am happy to hear I am not the only one who ends up with something surprising! The following angel was the result of trying to draw a chicken! lol!
http://app.sketchclub.com/sketch/22226962 Many of my current sketches start out with me creating a new brush and playing with the textures. Fun!

I almost always amaze myself with my own art... Even when I have an idea in mind, the end result is rarely what I initially intened. Though, rarely do I ever have a final 'image' of my ideas in my head, so the overall outcome usually just happens on accident... Especially with my pixelated bakgrounds.
-
Most of my stuff is opportunistic

Especially if I'm heavily using textures.
-
I can not possibly draw whats in my head, the ability just isn't there. Mostly I just doodle out a little person and then think, now what mischievous thing have they been up to? And somewhere in sketching I figure it out.
-
Well, the gf says I'm a bit of a narcissist... So, maybe my amazement in my own work has nothing to do with the fact that my art is generally oppotunistic. ♌ ftw!
-
Lol. Thanks for the feedback. Has anyone found their art to get less opportunistic over time?
-
Uh. What do you mean by opportunistic? Tried to get it from context, but my brain ain't working.

Essplain pls

I could be wrong, but I think they are talking about the idea of seeing something in a doodle (or any random bunch of marks) and then going with it. So Snick (see her comment above) sets out to draw a chicken, she looks at where it's going and thinks, 'I see an angel' and so then she takes the 'opportunity' to make an angel instead.

Ahhah. Ok, thanks Wendy

I find that I am doing this less but still do it from time to time, see Mr.Skully Man, was my latest "accident" 😃oh wait, ya can't he's gone till my account is fixed😨never mind derp😜
-
Derp..hehe

A huge portion of my art is spontaneously directed...I let the sketch lead a good amount of the time....so the result is something I could never set out to do from the start....so many surprises occur with a click I am blown away by the media....but this is also how I work in the physical media too...I just love the surprises and the journey....rarely do I envision my sketch totally from the beginning and execute it exactly....my mind doesn't work that way....I see an opportunity and run with it.....I also like to scribble and see what it might look like....let the sketch do the talking....
