Just finished talking with PK about this, and he encouraged me to create this thread.
So my question for you is... what is your honest opinion about buying prints from other SC artists? Currently you can only order prints of your own artwork. But how would you feel if you could buy a tangible work of art from your favorite artist? Or even someone wanting to buy a copy of your own sketch? Please tell me your thoughts & opinions. Thanks in advance!

I think it's a great idea. There are also a few other artists pics I would like on shirts. Some artists like Lefrog already sell them through other websites (I already bought one of his) but it would be great to be able to get them through sketch club and hopefully those artists with the sketches I want would participate. I guess the question then arises, what does the artist get for it. Then it becomes a whole knew issue for BP. But I still think its a great idea if it can be set up
-
I think it would be great, if it can be set up to be fair to all. You'd need some way for people to offer their stuff, since it would have to be voluntary, and there'd have to be some kind of compensation to the artist as well, most likely. Worth thinking about, though, for sure.
-
By the way, I bought a print of one of mine and it looks GREAT. The printing is very high quality.
-
Honestly, I'm not really feeling this. Not that I think I would sell any but mostly because I do not feel like my pieces are finished, and to the point. Like Artigan said, it would have to be on a voluntary basis. I do not sketch on SC with the intention of selling, but just for having fun. If I would make work to sell, I would spend much more time on perfecting them, and it was never my intention. Also, I think that if artworks were to be sold, the artists should have the right to choose their own price. That's not easy... Then, as Pastiche and Artigan said, fixing the compensation to the artist is another issue... If stuff is to be sold, having a way to stop right click downloads of images should be implemeted, (like copyrighted images on Flickr). I don’t want to be the one who disagrees, but these are my concerns... Maybe you can try and make me see where I am wrong!
-
Yes, I love this idea! There are several SC artists whom I would buy prints from if I could.
And Artigan is right....the quality of the prints is amazing. Great material, and beautiful printing work. I'm very impressed.

I would like to be able to buy stuff from other artists (finished or not

)
On a side note, wrt the prints. Are the images printed to the edge of the canvas? or is there a border? And if there is a border, is that included in the print dimensions?
-
I would love to buy stuff by other Sketch Clubbers, and I would be very flattered if someone asked for one of my sketches 😊
-
I would also like to buy prints of other artists work. With that said, I believe the original artist should receive a royalty. Perhaps a heart for every sold work of art. Or a star.
-
that would be cool for each artist to have the ability to set up their own little sc store on their profile and we can just get a small percentage of whatever it sells for hooked up through paypal or something and at the end of the month bp can pay us. that would be alot of work for sg and bp though, as they would have to still do the printing and shipping
-
This is alright, it would be nice to share our art in print, but there are a few things we need to consider. I think artists should be given the prerogative to decide on their art, whether to sell a particular piece or not. We dont know how artists value their artwork, some are just too precious for them to sell, maybe something for their loved ones, some are actually selling their art outside SC which could cause conflict on monetary vaue, some are reproduced so that could have some copyright issue, or some people just don't like any money involved. Whatever the reason, giving the artists an option to sell or not a particular piece is best... Other than that, it would be really nice to share our artworks in print with fellow artists, I will definitely buy a Batman's art shirt or Lola's😊 Good point too Artemis😊

There is no border, Kingmaker.

yep! so what i'm thinking is when you edit the infos for your sketch you could enable an option to make it available for prints and set a price level. when people view your sketch page then an order prints option will show up and part of any sale goes back to you. i use amazon payments for the Sketch Club store and they have a cool marketplace system that i believe will allow us to do this. so you'd just link your SC account with your amazon payments account and then receive money with print sales.
-
Awesome, BP! PK is very happy to hear this is coming soon!
-
All good BP! Thank you!😊 Oops, just one thing... they don't ship to my place, hope this can be done too😔
-
can you put amazon payments into paypal? my big thing with paypal is that i dont have nor want a bank account and i just use the paypal debit card for monies.
-
Wow!!!i am totally for this!! Can y'all imagine(knowing me) how I'd flip out if any one ever said they wanted something I did??? Good grief, I'd be smiling for a year!
One thing though. If we do this I think we should have a set of guidelines that can be printed out so we know all the details!!

Artemis brings up many good points, which ring true for me. I, too, enjoy SC for the chance to draw n paint in a wayyy supportive community. It's magical and unique in the world of art and artists! I look to SC to try new ideas, learn the digital tools to add to my analog painting practice, and...commune with you all. Introducing commerce into the equation seems a logical next step. But is it? How might selling artwork here evolve. Into a quasi Etsy? How might our ever competitive spirits be effected by now looking at one another as a source of $$ vs. glops? And what of copyright issues. And artist's individual pricing, which would be needed. I sound like I am throwing cold water on this idea, eh? Don't mean to. Just think a lot of things need to be considered prior. As I type I think the best of all worlds would be to create a separate SC user mini store, with int SC store? This way those who choose to sell can do so there, and those who want to just enjoy SC as it is can continue to do so in the shelter/cocoon of our loving and supportive SC community. This way, both needs are met. Just a thought...or two!
-
I think I agree with Goatfish.
I just draw for the fun of it, and I very much enjoy Sketch Club as a way to share my own art and admire everybody else's. But I never really thought about selling any of my sketches. I like the idea of a special little corner of SC devoted to the selling and buying of other artist's sketches. That way whoever wants to sell can show off sketches there, and if you want to buy a sketch, just go there and see what's "for sale."
But then...I don't want Sketch Club to COMPLETELY become a "store"...
I prefer to just let people look at my art...I definitely won't be selling things...not yet anyway.
I don't know...just my thoughts...
-
Well if I was ever getting paid for my stuff I wouldn't wanna know about it. Lol. Not really interested in messing with my motivations for sketching.

Maybe artists could set a limit to the number of copies available, then the prints could be numbered like other rt prints, e.g 54/100
