Right from the time I was young, I always wanted to be a paramedic. I got married, and raised a family, but the yearning to help people and save lives never left me. Many years passed before I would enroll in the required training. What a wonderful feeling it was to put my uniform on to go to a job I loved, especially when we got a helicopter call to the back country. Maybe it was a crashed snowmoblier, a quad accident, a grizzly bear mauling, a cardiac arrest in the bush, or just a twisted ankle on a mountain top with only one way down. The trip out in the helicopter was always casual conversation, enjoying the majestic beauty of the mountain terrain; but once we landed, it was always hands on and patient focussed.
I feel very fortunate to have been able to have had the career of my dreams!
