I’ve been planting Showy Milkweed to attract the beautiful Monarch Butterflies to my property. Their numbers have been diminishing lately, due to the one plant, Milkweed, that feeds their larvae, disappearing from our landscapes. This butterfly actually migrates south in the fall, ( ours overwinter in California), and multi generations fly back to Canada in the spring to lay their their eggs on the one plant that can ensure their survival - Milkweed.
