SketchClub Actives Group Challenge: Take a stand against bullying.http://app.sketchclub.com/group/sketch-club-actives
Coach bullying is not specific to collegiate or professional athletes. All to often it is present in youth club, middle and high school athletics too. In a recent survey 45% of children surveyed said adults called them names, yelled at them and insulted them while playing sports. 17% say they had been hit, kicked and slapped by their coaches. It is so wrong and unproductive. Coaches should be like team leaders, someone an athlete can trust and be motivated by. A coach can build up your self-esteem or tear it down.
My Granddaughter played ball since the age of 5 until she was 18. She was on 3 travel softball teams over those years. She was known for her pitching and 3rd base skills, but could and would play any position on the team when asked to do so by her coaches. She had college coaches scouting her in her freshman year in high school. Her dream was to play softball in college. She had softballs running through her veins. My Granddaughter was bullied her entire 4 years in high school by her coach, and by her last year on one of the states top travel teams. Her dad was warned that he was a mean coach, but my son thought he would wait and see. Unfortunately it was true. My Granddaughter had been offered 3 college scholarships. But turned them all down because of her previous 5 years of bullying. It was heartbreaking for all of us!
She went to college and obtained a degree in Computer Sciences and also studied Cyber Security. She was on the Chancellors list a few times because of her high grades. She was offered an internship with a great company that promised her a bonus and a job on graduation if she would work for them. In her internship, she was the only female in the group. The other 20 people were from India and all males. At the age of 23 she is now a self sufficient young woman with her own 2 bedroom apartment, a new car and a sizable amount of money in her 401K. Im so proud of what she has accomplished in spite of her years of bullying!
