Did you know that Blue Jays can mimic human speech? They are members of the corvid (crow) family, and are very intelligent. In Aesop’s Fables, you may remember one adding pebbles to a jar of partially filled water to raise the level so she could get a drink. They also hide their food for later, have the ability to plan ahead, they know who is watching them, and can not only mimic human speech, but also the sounds and calls of other birds. They will often mimic the sound of a bird of prey to scare songbirds away from their food stash. Very clever birds!
