This beautiful plant originally hails from Africa, where ancient tribes used the sap to poison the heads of their arrows for killing elephants. The sap is extremely toxic, and gloves should be worn for protection from sap exposure. This plant is a hardy succulent, resembling a bonsai tree with thick stems. Apparently the sap is extremely difficult to obtain, requiring cutting through the plant stems, which makes the toxicity of this plant well protected.
