Ronnie Montrose passed away on Saturday, March 3. I've been listening to the first Montrose album, some of Ronnie's instrumental albums, and the first two albums by Gamma, Ronnie's band after Montrose disbanded. this is My version of the cover from the first album by Gamma.
Ronnie Montrose (November 29, 1947 – March 3, 2012) was an American rock guitarist who led a number of his own bands as well as performed and did session work with a variety of musicians, including Sammy Hagar, Herbie Hancock, Van Morrison, The Beau Brummels, Boz Scaggs, Beaver & Krause, Gary Wright, Tony Williams, The Neville Brothers, Dan Hartman, Edgar Winter, and Johnny Winter.
Come on...Rock Candy, Bad Motor Scooter, Space Station #5, Make It Last...and those were all on the debut Montrose album, which was more or less the prototype for Van Halen's debut! And to top it all off, the guy played guitar on Van Morrison's "Tupelo Honey"...and those are just a couple highlights!
Rest In Peace, Ronnie!
